Advent Wreath Children's DramaLiving Wreath Performance Shares Meaning of the Candles and Symbols
Advent prepares hearts for Christmas. Make it memorable with a live advent drama. It's easy to produce with simple, inexpensive props and costumes.
A homemade live advent drama is a great way for Christian families to prepare for Christmas. To begin, get several children to form a wreath circle to represent the unending circle of God's love. Other children perform as candles and share the meaning of the wreath. Advent Costumes and PropsMake tunics and robes by cutting plastic tablecloths into rectangles and cutting holes to slip over children's heads. Make floor length tunics for the candle actors and shorter ones for the wreath performers. Cut long strips of matching plastic to make belts. Slip tunics over each child's head and tie sides closed with belts. Choose several children for wreath and make green tunics. Two of these children have speaking parts. Purchase five battery powered candles. Tie purple ribbons around three candles, pink around one, and white around the remaining candle. Five actors will represent candles:
Living Wreath PerformanceTwo wreath children with speaking parts stand while the others sit in a circle. After each actor speaks he or she joins the circle. Candle actors will stand (evenly spread around wreath). Christ candle will stand in the center. All sing between candle speaking parts. Green child 1: Jesus is coming! The word advent means 'coming.' Green child 2: The evergreen circle shape with no end or beginning reminds us of the evergreen of God's everlasting love Prophet: I'm the prophecy candle. Prophet's words lit the way of the coming Messiah. Prophets stood alone, telling others of God's message. This purple is for repentance. Prophets called people to be sorry for sins.Christmas celebrates the first coming of Christ and the hope of His second coming. Song: O Come, O Come, Immanuel Bethlehem: I'm the Bethlehem Candle. Bethlehem, means 'house of bread.' Jesus is the bread of life. There was no room in Bethlehem for Jesus except in a poor little stable. Make sure there's room in your hearts and lives for Jesus. Song: O Little Town of Bethlehem Shepherd: I'm Shepherd Candle. The pink is to remind us of the great joy the shepherd's shared at the birth of Christ and our joy as Christmas nears. The candy cane is made of the red of love and white of purity entwined in the shape of the Shepherd's staff. Shepherds were the first to worship Jesus. Jesus is the Good Shepherd who guides us. Over half the candles are lit now, reminding us it will be Christmas soon! Song: Silent Night Angel: I'm the Angel candle. Angels are God's messengers. We announced the news of Christ's birth and filled the sky with singing. Song: Hark the Herald Angels Sing. Christ: I'm the Christ candle. I'm in the center for Christ should tin he center of our lives. I wear white because Jesus came into the world without sin, pure and holy. The wise men looked in the sky and saw a larger light than the other stars, recognizing that the heavens declared the birth of the King! Are you wise enough to look beyond the commercial sparkle to see the light of Christ? Song: Happy Birthday Jesus! The drama involves children, launches the advent wreath use, and helps families focus on Jesus.
