Trying to get creative with Father's Day gifts can be hard for kids. Here are some ideas that will make his day very special.

A dad knows that a gift has come from the heart when he sees the love and thought that your child has put into it. It's easy to buy him a grilling apron, a box of golf balls, or a new tie. But, is that really something a child could have done on his own? Maybe so, but here are some unique gifts that come straight from the heart!

T-shirts are a great way for a child to get his dad something for Father's Day. A T-shirt comes from the heart because it shows that a child really knows what his dad likes. It may seem like an ordinary gift, but when you let a child pick it out, it really does mean something.

Let your child plan an outing for the day. A picnic in the park is a great idea. The idea is to let your child plan the day (you can specify the hour or hours it is to be done, though). Make it a surprise, not telling dad where you are going or what you are doing. If it involves swimming, pack his trunks and a towel and stash them in the car so he won't see them.

Let your child create a book of "Dad's Life" by interviewing people who knew him as a child (his mother, brothers, sisters, cousins) and ask them about stories from his childhood. Not only will your child be giving dad a keepsake of cherished memories, but your child will learn more about the family, as well. Don't forget to get as many pictures (past and present) as you can!

If you must give dad a tie on Father's Day, make it edible! Here are directions for a Necktie Cake:

Directions: Mix up a cake mix following the package directions. Now pour batter into 1 cupcake holder, and the remainder into a rectangular pan. Bake according to directions, and allow to cool. Remove the cake from the pan, and cut in half lengthwise. Lay the pieces end to end on cardboard, or a cookie sheet. Place the cupcake at one end of the cake. Cut the other end of the cake into a V-shape. Now frost the cake and decorate with M & Ms or other goodies to look like a tie! (MailJust4Me.com - May 2007)

Emphasize to your child that it is not about how much a gift costs, but about the love that goes into giving the gift. You can't place a monetary value on family, because there isn't enough money in the world to do that. Giving of your time and your effort is the best gift ever.
