Mission of National Day of Prayer Task Force - The National Day of Prayer Task Force's mission is to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, mobilizing the Christian community to intercede for America and its leadership in the five centers of power: Church, Education, Family, Government and Media. (National Day of Prayer Official Website, April 14, 2007)

The National Day of Prayer is in its 56th year! This day is designed Christian to come together in prayer to pray for government leaders (federal, state, and local), as well as the media (who controls much of what we hear and see), education (which depends so much on what our children are taught in schools), church, and family (an institution that God himself put in place). It is an exciting time to get families involved in a prayer life together. You can do this in various ways, including:

  1. Each member of the family commits to praying 5 minutes a day for the 5 categories above (goverment, media, education, church, and family). You could design a chart where each member can mark off if they have said their prayers for the day. If you have very young children, of course, you can help them with this to show how important prayer is to you.
  2. Find an event in your area where you can go as a family on May 3, 2007, and participate with other Christians in prayer. You can find a location in your are at the National Day of Prayer official website.
  3. The theme this year is "America, Unite in Prayer." It is based on 1 Chronicles 7:14, which says, "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (NIV) Have a family discussion to decide what stands your family takes on current issues. Get on the same page as a family, as far as what is important to you, and how you would like to see things made better. Even find some things that are working really well in America, and pray that these will continue.
  4. The National Day of Prayer task force is a nonprofit organization, and needs donations from families, businesses, and churches to keep going strong. If you would like to consider giving a donation to this worthy cause, visit them at National Day of Prayer to make a donation on-line or by mail.

Together, we can start restoring America to its original Christian heritage. We are one voice that sounds strong and mighty when we come together as one body in Christ. Your prayers can and do make a difference!
