Helping Your Child Understand Their Creator
Talking to children about God can be done in a few different ways. It depends on how deep you want the conversation to be, which also depends on what age child you are talking to. Obviously, you would not explain every aspect of God and all that he controls to a preschooler. Preschoolers will accept what you tell them and probably be happy with a satisfactory answer in their mind. But, an upper elementary-aged child will want to know more about God. Who Is God?
He is the creator of all people and all things. He is our Father who cares for each and everyone of us. We know God is real because we have faith. Faith is believing in what you cannot see. We cannot see the wind, but we see how it moves trees and flowers. We cannot smell or touch love, but we know it is there. So, it should not be so hard to believe in God.
Who Created God?
No one created God. He has always been there. Though we do not have the answers to how God appeared, we just remember that God has no limitations, and, therefore, He just always has been there.
Where is God?
God is everywhere. He is called omnipresent, which means "present everywhere." Because God is everywhere, we are never alone. We have limits to what we can do. We only have 24 hours in a day, and no matter how hard we try to stretch our time, we still only have 24 hours in a day. God has no limits. Because God has no limits he can be everywhere and have no limitations to what He can do.
Why Did God Make Us?
Before God created people, He took the time to create all the things that we would need to survive. He planned it all out that we would be able to thrive on Earth, and He would be able to walk with us. God gave us a mind to make our own choices. He could have made us like puppets so everyone would follow Him, but He chose not to. He wanted us to decide for ourselves to love and trust Him. God did not want to be alone, so he created us and gave us a place where that we could enjoy.
How Can I Show God that I Love Him?
To show God that we love Him, we read our Bibles. We read our Bibles to learn more about who God is and how He wants us to live. The Bible is inspired by God and His message to us is in there. We can also pray to God. Prayer is a way to talk with God. We wait patiently for God to answer us. Another way to show God that we love him is to love other people. Since God created everyone, we should treat them with the same kind of love that God has for us.
